Hurricane Katrina five years ago

Hurricane Katrina came ashore along the gulf coast five years ago August 29, 2005

I was awake most of the night and watched the storm pass over from my home on Hwy 613 in Moss Point. Little did I know what was taking place only 5 miles from my house. Just across hwy 63 houses that should never have to worry about flooding were being flooded by this unique hurricane Katrina. 

Katrina was different from other hurricanes that I had experienced. I sat on my back porch and watch the blue hole of water white capping. Yet very little rain was falling from this massive storm. It was not until latter that evening before we knew of the mass destruction Katrina had caused.

People of this area had decided to stay home, and ended up in waist high water, many fighting for their lives. I cant imagine the horror they must have felt, if hurricane Katrina had came ashore during the night, I suspect many more lives would had been lost.

  Thanks to all the individuals, organizations, men, women, children that helped to rebuild our area after hurricane Katrina..

Places and Things to do in Pascagoula Ms.

Pascagoula is located in Jackson County Ms. 30 minutes west is Biloxi and 30 minutes east is Mobile Alabama. Pascagoula, is not a tourist destination,  and is usually associated with the Mississippi Squirrel revival. Of course people who travel here are traveling because of Chevron USA,  NGSS Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Mississippi Phosphate, and other industries in the area.

Although Pascagoula is not the stopping place for travelers, its brings people here several times a year for fun filled days.  Pascagoula has a fireworks show on July 4 th off beach park. The Pascagoula Mardi Gras Parade, and the Carnival Balls are enjoyed by locals and visitors.  

We have a free admission blue ribbon fair in October, that last a week. Pascagoula Zonta Club sponsers a arts and craft festival to raise money. The Kawanis club has a 5K walk, the heart association walk is always a big turn out, the Easter parade,  christmas parade and Crusing the coast Antique Car Show, are just a few more worthy mentions.

If your looking for a B&B in Pascagoula, we now have one. The Grand Magnolia Bed and Breakfast also offers a ballroom for large family gatherings and meetings.

Date has Changed for Castlewoods Annual Picnic - 2010

Castlewoods Homeowners Picnic

Castlewoods Homeowners Association will host the Annual Castlewoods Day this Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Azalea Trails Park.

Please note this is a week earlier than originally planned.

Volunteers were refreshing the mulch around the kids playground last Saturday as Brownie & I took our afternoon stroll. I learned of the date change from the volunteers. The Castlewoods newsletter contains the prior date.

Be sure to come THIS SATURDAY, August 21 to the park to meet and visit our neighbors, enjoy burgers, dogs, etc., prepared by The Knights of Columbus, and let the kids play. (I have it on good authority that inflatables will be on site.)

Festivities start around 4:00.

T-shirts are available at the Castlewoods Office (M-F; 9:00 - 1:00) for $10.
